Bremerton Youth and Law Forum returns on October 17, 2026, bringing young people, families, and legal professionals together at the Kitsap County Courthouse. Hosted by NAACP Bremerton Unit 1134, the forum gives youth across Kitsap County a direct, practical look at their rights, the justice system, and the people who work inside it.

Event Details

Young people are often the first to feel the impact of policing, school discipline, and court decisions, yet they are the last to be asked what they need to know. The Bremerton Youth and Law Forum closes that gap by putting students and families in the same room as the attorneys, judges, and community advocates who shape how the law works in Kitsap County.

The forum is part of a full fall calendar from NAACP Bremerton, which also includes a Home Buyers 101 Forum and the annual Community and Law Enforcement Dinner. Together these programs reflect the branch commitment to education, safety, and opportunity for Black families and all communities of color on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Why the Bremerton Youth and Law Forum Matters for Kitsap Families

Research from civil rights and juvenile justice organizations has shown for years that Black youth are more likely than their white peers to be stopped, disciplined in school, and referred into the court system for similar behavior. Those early contacts can follow a young person for years, shaping school records, job applications, and even college admissions. Understanding how the system works, and what rights apply at each step, can change how those moments play out.

The Bremerton Youth and Law Forum is designed to make that knowledge practical. Instead of lectures, the day is built around conversation, so young people can ask the questions they actually have about traffic stops, searches, school resource officers, social media, and what happens after an arrest. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend alongside their teens so families leave with a shared understanding and a plan.

The Kitsap County Courthouse is located at 614 Division Street in Port Orchard. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to allow time for building security screening. The forum runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and families are welcome to attend for the portions that fit their schedule.
